Pete Rose was immortalized in bronze when the Cincinnati Reds unveiled a statue of him outside Great American Ball Park on Saturday.

Or is it Wolverine?

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw pictures of the statue over the weekend.

The initial reaction indicated I’m not the only one, so here’s a closer look.

How does the head on the statue of the Hit King compare to Hugh Jackman’s depiction of the coolest-ever character in the Marvel Comics Universe?

Pete, meet Logan. Logan, meet Pete.

They actually have a lot of similarities.

Neither was the tallest nor the most naturally gifted (Does endless hustle compare to a healing factor?), but both did the most he could with what he had and rose to a prominent role on an all-time great team.

Pete and Logan have both been around seemingly forever and are much-beloved despite some past days they probably aren’t proud of.

Scrappy guys who just get the job done — even if it’s not always pretty.

Maybe this is no coincidence after all…
